A Few Divertissements
Will de Kypia

It's much easier to ad lib a limerick
than it is to structure a sonnet.

Two Limericks

_ðŸĶĪ
There was a young man from Chicago
who knew there was much he did not know.
Though he went off to college
to acquire some knowledge
he came back still dumb as a dodo.

🚗
There was an old lady from Fraser
who bigly drove a MAGA red Blazer.
Since she wasn't too bright

she would only turn right,
common sense and the law didn't faze her.

Two Clerihews

Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell
is a cool fighter pilot as hot as a pistol,
the ace who's always the toppest gun
even when flying an old P-51.

Thomas Cruise Mapother the Fourth
frequently finds himself way off course.
He once gave James Corden a ride on a jet
and the two have never been seen again yet.

ONE Lanterne

Lights
shine on
in the dark
until they burn
out.
__________

ONE Slanterne

Life goes on until
………..
suddenly it doesn't.

Which began life
as a diamante

This Poet's Apologia

Those who disdain the craft of poetry
might wonder what purpose people
like me have in this prosaic world.

But I am certain there's a reason
a higher power — or maybe it was a
mischievous sprite — put us poets here.

Put us here to write bold, beautiful lines
sounding heavenly golden chords. To compose
perfect poems, masterworks past compare.

Works we'll eventually see as the dismal
failures they are, causing us to reject and
disown every wretched poem we've written.

Then we quickly begin a new one since
we will never stop writing until forever.

The poet's sole purpose is to persevere.
Why we must do this was perhaps written
on the wind by that mischievous sprite.
