A celebrated ancient philosopher once
said
Man is the measure of all things.

Some people consider these words to
be a bold declaration that each of us is the
creator of our own perceptual reality.

While others regard them as a pompous
way to make a commonplace observation:

There is just no accounting for tastes.

It doesn't matter who's right because that
ancient philosopher was quite mistaken.

Man is the measure of nothing, not
even — no,
especially not of himself.

All ethical systems contain
one very significant caveat:

However, notwithstanding any of
the provisos above a truly righteous
end warrants whatever measures
are necessary to achieve it.

The best is the enemy of the good.

Three malign delusions will
forever afflict our species.

Credo Ergo Verum Est
I believe, therefore it is true.

Cupio Ergo Meum Est
I want, therefore it is mine.

Odio Ergo Sum
I hate, therefore I am.

Whenever the gods are thirsty, we
mortals are not allowed to drink.
