Cross-Browser Compatibility
Factors That Affect A Website's Appearance
Websites do not appear exactly the same on all browsers.
Browsers (like Brave, Edge, Firefox, Safari) use software rendering
engines to convert a site's computer code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
to visuals displayed on a page. Different engines do this differently;
pages might look and perform better or worse on a certain browser.
A device and its OS (OperatingSystem) can also affect the way
a webpage looks and functions. Some pages will display properly
on laptops, but appear quite distorted on tablets and cellphones.
Professional website developers test sites on multiple browsers
and platforms (device-OS-browser combinations) to ensure that
all users enjoy similar website experiences. Users don’t, anyway.
I'm not a professional website developer but after viewing my
website with my laptop on various browsers I've decided that
Edge displays it the best so I have optimized for that browser.
Future updates to the browsers and to my OS could make
a different browser preferable. As could external factors,
like increased sunspot activity or getting a new laptop.
